FAQ

What is forum non conveniens and who’s behind it?
forum non conveniens (Latin for “an inconvenient forum”) was created in the summer of 2025 by two UVA Law students who joked about making a tribute t-shirt for Judge Learned Hand. The name is a nod to the legal doctrine that lets a judge move a case when there's a more convenient forum elsewhere. For us, it captures the heart of our brand: a highly niche legal streetwear company offering a forum for humor, creativity, and a little chaos in an otherwise buttoned-up profession.

Can I order a custom shirt or suggest a design?
Yes, and please do! We would be so excited to make you a custom piece. Visit our sui generis page to contact us and get started.

Can I get an existing design on a different product?
Definitely. If you love a design but want it on a hoodie, long sleeve, tote bag, or in another color, just shoot us an email. We’re happy to make it happen.

How do you set your prices?
We have chosen to prioritize quality and comfort, opting for heavy cotton materials over cheaper blends whenever we can. Our margins are small, just a few bucks per shirt, so most of what you pay goes toward the shirt itself, printing, and shipping.

This is dumb/nerdy/unserious.
You're not wrong. And we know these shirts are very much not for everyone. If you’re looking for something a little more mainstream, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
